Saturday, December 4th was a perfect winter evening to light the Village Christmas Tree.
Almost too late for planning, only 2 weeks beforehand, the Club members decided to hold a non-perishable food collection to help restock the shelves at St. Martin's Food Pantry. But with help from members' Facebook pages, The Amityville Record and our Assistant to the Mayor, Wendy O'Neill, we attempted publicizing the project. The Mayor and Board of Trustees enthusiastically agreed to allow our participation right near the Gazebo on the Triangle. Member Donna Matone hand-decorated a couple of collection bins and we were on our way. Many members attended to help (a few shown in the photo) and much to our delight, the generous Amityville residents donated much more food than anticipated, quickly filling our bins and many brown grocery bags!
May the Spirit of Giving continue to fill everyone's hearts this season and throughout the year!
