Virginia sent us this quote that describes our 2024 Day for Service Project:
"Helping one person might not change the world but it could change the world for one person."
The Amityville Rotary Club met at The Bristal in Massapequa for our 2024 Day of Service Project. The staff welcomed us warmly and helped us, along with a group of their residents, to pack 100 bags of everyday necessities. The bags will be delivered to the Coalition for the Homeless to be distributed to their clients.
Due to the generosity of another Rotary group, RotaCare, which donated over 100 drawstring bags to the project, we were able to spend more money on supplies to fill the bags- items such as toothpaste, brushes, soap, rain ponchos, candy, snacks, lightweight warming blankets, wash&dries and a 5-dollar bill. Carolyn Dodd was chair and organizer of this event.
In addition to touching well over 100 homeless and the staff of the Coalition, one of the benefits of this particular project was that another segment of the public was made aware of the purpose of Rotary and given the opportunity to assist. The publicity which we hope will be published in the local news also will make the general public also aware.
